Farmers in Karnataka’s Bengaluru are planning to hold a groundnut trading festival in November to celebrate the groundnut harvest. They are planning to use paper bags instead of polythene bags in this festival.
To create awareness among the public not to weigh old newspapers and throw them in the garbage,Hosur Sarjapur Road Layout Citizens’ Forum (HSR) is collecting newspapers to make paper bags. To eliminate and reduce single-use plastic bags, around 50,000 paper bags were produced last year and this year they are targeting to produce two lakh paper bags.
The public should take this wonderful initiative seriously and support it. Make paper bags from old newspapers in their homes.
The public living in apartment or villa communities can organize a small paper bag making activity among children and school students to create awareness. Each family can make at least 5-10 bags. This can create a big awareness in the area to completely ban and eliminate plastic bags.
The newspapers will be collected till November 11th and distributed to nearby HSR schools. By November 14th, the bags will be handed over to the vendors.
